I am very passionate about how Portal is a very feminist game. I see a lot of people say that Portal is progressive because it could’ve had a protagonist of interchangeable gender, and that Chell being a woman affects nothing. But it completely does! Chell being a woman is inherent to the plot and theming of the narrative! Portal is progressive because it depicts corporate exploitation of women and actively shows a woman perservering and overcoming that abuse!!!
The misogyny Chell puts up with is ungodly. It’s GLaDOS’s insults about your appearance and clothes, Wheatley’s constant condescending and assumption you’re incompetent, the way Cave Johnson talks about Caroline and takes away her agency, Wheatley’s adoption of GLaDOS’s insults towards Chell once he’s in power, all of “The Itch” section, it’s even embedded in the company culture of Aperture :
The implications of this poster given that Wheatley is currently in charge at this point in the game drive me insane
“If I die before you people can pour me into a computer, I want Caroline to run this place.”
“Now she’ll argue. She’ll say she can’t. She’s modest like that. But you make her.”
It’s really chilling how the entire series was kickstarted by this one misogynistic and ego-driven man. Even though Wheatley is technically the main villain, I think Johnson serves as a pretty compelling thematic antagonist.
Its about to be real lucrative to be a snitch. Guard your information. And guard your friends information.
Fourth Riech shit.
Remember the person who snitched on Luigi? All because they wanted the reward, which they ended up not getting because the police & government used loopholes to get out of paying it.
The same thing will happen if you rat out immigrants. The odds of you getting the money are low. It’s a carrot on a stick to get you to do the work for them.
dear usamerican high schoolers looking for a way to resist fascism: sit through the pledge of allegiance.
no getting up. no looking at the flag.
everyone will be looking at you. you’ll be sweating like a fucking hippopotamus. your teacher will sternly tell you to get up. you’ll feel stupid and that maybe its not worth it because you’re just a kid in a classroom. but I’m here to remind you that there are no real life consequences to detention. there are however real life consequences to resisting a thoughtless performance of nationalism.
not to talk tough but i have sat through every pledge of allegiance in my life, and that includes the bush administration’s hyper-patriotic war on terror.
you can NOT be compelled to say the pledge, and that also means you can’t be given the ‘choice’ of doing it or taking a punishment. being sent into the hall is a grey area.
if you are punishing for refusing, parents or a more sympathetic teacher (like say a history or english teacher) can step in to intercede with the principal. do not be afraid to escalate.
it is critical now of all times that you PRACTICE civil disobedience, starting small, sticking to it, and working up, this will help you learn how very much disobedience you can actually get away with in this life, which is actually a hell of a lot.
i live in west virginia. i have the opportunity to do the coolest thing ever.
Also: look, as someone who was TERRIFIED of EVER getting detention in high school, I can now tell you that this post is correct, there are no real consequences. I thought the elite school I wanted to go to would not accept me if I had a single detention - chances are they wouldn’t have even known about it, and if they did, a detention here and there they absolutely would not have cared about. Now, suspension, yes, they might care, but not detention. And if it’s for something like this, most universities would see that as a favorable thing.
And yeah, if they do threaten to punish you in any way, remind them of the above court case, and if they keep pushing, have your parents talk to the superintendent about how sued the district can afford to get over this.
you guys made luigi mangione trend for days and I need to see the same energy for brianna boston. she is a 43 year old mother of three who ended a phone call with blue cross blue shield (after being denied a claim) “delay deny depose, you’re next” and is now being held under a 100,000$ bond and could face FIFTEEN years of prison if charged. she has no weapons, her record is clean, and yet she is being held behind bars. they are afraid of the public and are trying to subdue. do not let them!!!! say her name!!! be outraged that our freedom of speech is being threatened!!!!! deny defend depose! free brianna boston!
